Not performing in 2017
(USA) Acoustic, Folk, Singer-Songwriter
Carrie Elkin has been called “a force of nature,” but she’s more like a fresh breeze through an open window on a green June morning than a tornado or a thunderstorm. Her earthy voice and her open-hearted, traditional songwriting have drawn comparisons to Nanci Griffith and Iris DeMent. Garbed more often than not in a floral-print dress and a pair of road-worn boots, she spent years as a nomad, honing her craft from one end of the US to the other, from Boston to Taos to Athens to Cleveland, before settling in the songwriter’s oasis of Austin where she lives with another 2012 performer, Danny Schmidt.
Elkin sings of sin and redemption, the anxieties we have about reconciling earthly with spiritual concerns, how to recapture a long-misplaced light within. Armed with a guitar, punchy voice and delicate, bittersweet songs, free-spirited Elkin follows the call of her troubadour heart and conquers every stage with honesty and intimacy.
