Sarah Jarosz’s songs resonate with a rich and long bluegrass heritage, as though they have been sung by musicians around campfires for years. But even though these original songs have less history than you imagine, when they are being served up to world by a 20 year old, their newness is more than balanced by Jarosz’s fierce musical and lyrical talent.
Jarosz has a voice that is syrupy and deep, a mighty tempting distraction that leads the listener over a bed of swaying violins, sprightly banjos, and headlong mandolins. And her talent extends beyond the label of singer songwriter; she could be a one-woman band, rotating through guitar, mandolin, claw-hammer banjo and octave mandolin. Jarosz’s music ranges from old-timey roots to straight up bluegrass and traditional folk songs with a pop edge. Her efforts have earned her a Grammy nomination and kept her active in the festival circuits, and this is only the beginning. This young talent has only begun to create her bluegrass legacy.
