Having started her recording career at 15, Serena Ryder has built a career that transcends the usual teen sensation pitfalls. Although she continually flirts with mainstream rock radio sounds, she keeps herself well outside of the middle of the pack through paying homage to artists such as Leonard Cohen and Paul Anka. She’s earned a Juno for her music and her songwriting and interpretation has drawn the attention of everyone from Blue Rodeo to Bruce Springsteen. Soulful and raw, lingering on notes and phrases in the manner of the best blues and rock musicians, Ryder cuts out a singular path with her voice. Few are the artists that leave you desperately wanting to know what they will do next – Ryder is one of those few.
