Don’t let their barroom history fool you – The Beauties are hardly your workaday pub cover band. True, they did grow out of a weekly residency at a bar in Toronto. Also true is that their shows quickly became a must see, selling out every week. But it wasn’t for their ability to play a great cover – it was about their ability to rock and roll, and do so in entirely their own way. At times introspective, at times bombastic, and at times banging away and bending your mind simultaneously, The Beauties re-examine and re-invent their roots constantly as they play. Having earned their stripes playing in a lobby to line-ups of music fans waiting to see other bands, they’ve honed the value of entertaining while developing their chops. They moved from the lobby to the mainstage seamlessly, bringing with them a crowd beholden to their relentless talent and unmitigated passion. The Beauties are a band that’s impossible to pigeonhole while remaining entirely recognizable, not to mention memorable.
