(USA)  Blues, Funk

Conjuring images of Skip James and Albert Ayler jamming on the Mississippi Delta, James Blood Ulmer has made a career built on left turns and reinvention. From his early roots in Baptist churches, work on the chitlin' circuit with R&B and organ jazz bands, time in Ornette Coleman's band where he developed his one-of-a-kind idiosyncratic guitar style, work with the Music Revelation Ensemble, and recent designation as elder statesman of the blues, he's a bonafide original who has created some of planet's most interesting and funkiest music.

Producer Vernon Reid says "Blood's songs are the essence of the blues. They're politically incorrect, sad and haunting, pissed off and address the complicated concept that is America."
