(USA)  Old Time, Roots

http://www.carolinachocolatedrops.com

Their name is an homage to a well-known African-American string band from the '20s called The Tennessee Chocolate Drops. It's fitting for a young African-American string band trio with a passion for country music from the Piedmont hills that run through the Carolinas and Virginia, where the banjo, which originated in Africa, is the lead instrument. This trio dig into the roots of their ancestors, bring out an oral history and re-create the musical sounds of their past. They draw inspiration from the rural African-American string band sound of the early '20s, with kazoo-tooting rave-ups combined with a contemporary urban bluegrass sound.
