Pacifica isthe multi-talented Silvana Kane, a Peruvian-born singer and accomplishedactress with a love of flamenco, electronica, and textured percussion; AdamPopowitz a Canadian-bred guitarist adept at new wave, classical, and pop; andToby Peter, a dub wise bassist born in Canada and raised in Barbados, explorerof jazz, hip-hop, metal and Caribbean grooves. Together the Vancouver-basedtrio makes a new kind of global pop, music that nods to its diverseinternational influences while forging its own unique voice. As Pacifika'ssongs unfold, a seductive vocal settles above plucked chords of a nylon-stringguitar, pulsing percussion and lush synthesized sounds to bridge the clear,unhurried form of Joao Gilberto-influenced pop and the mellow side ofelectronica. Jazz-infused and Latin-tinged, marked by gently flowing melodies,deep grooves, waves of cracking percussion and the occasional burst ofexhilarating guitar noise, Pacifika's comfortable, complex sound defiescategories, creating soothing soundscapes held together by Kane's smooth,intimate vocals.
