Polaris Prize and the Juno Awards nominee Donovan Woods’ new album is a study in contrasts, as per its name: Both Ways. That push-and-pull, especially in relationships, has long been Woods’ stock-in- trade. His quietly compelling delivery and characteristically droll sense of humour means he’s able to create laughter and break hearts in the same song with a fresh and captivating style that distills complicated situations and emotions into intriguing and relatable songs. Says Woods: “The writing I always liked is about things that are indicative of a world but not the entire world. They lead you into the room and then let you fill in the details.”
