His delicate outlaw emotive tunes carry a wholesome, nostalgic vision of rural Alberta and beyond. His life experience—working for small-town Alberta bridge construction company and as a former forester—gave him ample fodder for his debut Steve Dawson-produced album Outside the Lights of Town. On it, he crafts the archetypal, well-imagined characters of classic country and western songs. 

Mariel Buckley combines her urban roots-infused songwriting with her love of the Canadian landscape for a dark perception of her hometown and its inner workings. There is a distinct and introspective quality to this young songwriter’s music, which is full of visceral lyricism and gutsy musicianship.
