Festival Hall

Festival Hall Peek of the Week

Calgary Folk Music Festival Hall is well underway. We're excited to have a new home for offices, volunteer meetings and small concerts and we're particularly thrilled to be a part of 'Inglewood as music central'. Move in date is likely January 2011.

As part of the Folk Music Festival's commitment to build an environmentally sustainable Festival Hall, a complex maze of large diameter 'earth tubes' have been installed below the basement and hall floor. This method of pre‐heating or pre‐cooling of the ventilation air requires that the air being brought into the building is drawn in through the tubes beneath the building effectively reducing energy consumption and significantly reducing the need for mechanical cooling.Think of a french horn with its elaborate pipes and tubes all with the determined purpose of making beautiful music.

Like most construction in Inglewood, we struck water and lots of it! But our construction manager, architects and building team worked to resolve the water table problem with innovative solutions. Now, the basement foundation, walls and concrete pouring for the main floor in June will make the progress more tangible. Interesting innovations to build Festival Hall completion anticipated for December with Festival staff moving in as early as January, 2011.
