2005 Songwriting Contest

170 entries, representing an incredible outpouring of creative energy, were received in three categories for the 2005 Ship & Anchor and Calgary Folk Music Festival Songwriting Contest. Of those, some 45 artists were chosen to move to the live performance phase. Enthusiastic audiences heard a wide variety of themes, musical genres and performance styles over 3 weekends. More than $10,000 in cash and prizes was given to the winners, courtesy of sponsors Field Law, Big Rock, Axe Music, Calton Cases, Canada Disc and Tape, Sundae Sound, The Folk Music Festival and the Ship and Anchor. Hear the winners in each category perform their song live at the Calgary Folk Music Festival, July 21-24 at Prince's Island Park.
