Calgary Folk Music Festival’s Block Heater, presented by ATB, is just around the corner. 38 artists from around the world - including Hannah Georgas, Kid Koala, Shane Koyczan, Chad VanGaalen, Justin Rutledge and DJ Shub - perform in Inglewood and the East Village February 20 - 22, 2020.
Unfortunately, Sunny War has had to postpone her Block Heater appearance. We’re excited to announce that Angelique Francis is able to join us to perform in Sunny’s place.
If the definition of versatile is a band leader with a harmonica strapped to her neck and an upright bass in front of her who alternates between both and lead vocals, then Angelique Francis is that word's poster child. She plays the audience like a revivalist preacher, telling stories and delivering uplifting lyrics as she grooves on double and electric bass as well as blues harmonica. Her questions and monologues are sung, not spoken, adding to her charm. With soulful, smoky vocals and instrumental techniques reminiscent of a bygone era, but with a unique and modern twist, she moves through blues, soul, folk, jazz, gospel and rock. She’ll be joined by her siblings Kharincia and Kiran on sax, vocals and drums for an energetic, powerhouse trio show.
