When you can lay claim to having written over 1500 songs and recorded 29 releases, received over 14 songwriting awards spanning 3 decades including a Juno, what do you do next? It’s tough to continue to grow, given Ian Tamblyn’s experience. Having started releasing records in 1971 and expanding well beyond the “singer-songwriter” oeuvre by recording albums that featured the sounds of nature as the prime component of the instrumentation, Tamblyn chose to turn songwriting into playwriting – a natural extension, given that his songs weave compelling narratives amidst the well-practiced arrangements that he uses as much as punctuation as he does as background. Tamblyn’s a songwriter in the classic sense, unspooling tales of love, loss and redemption in a voice all his own, while continuing to weave the sound of our nation into his songs.
