Gordon Grdina's Haram

Gordon Grdina steps away from playing with Dan Mangan (and others), exchanging his guitar for the Iraqi oud to helm this ten piece power-house ensemble from the depths of Vancouver’s rich improvisational music community: drummer Kenton Loewen, trumpeter JP Carter, bassist Tommy Babin, violinist Jesse Zubot, percussionists Tim Gerwing and Liam MacDonald, singer Emad Armoush and composer Francois Houle. With one foot in Arabic traditions and the other in the indie rock/jazz scene, they meld cohesion with wild abandon, paying homage to an ancient repertoire combined with electronic soundscapes and western free improv.
