The musical genre Son Jarocho is a fusion of the Mexican, Spanish, African and indigenous cultures that combined over 500 years ago in Veracruz. Humourous lyrics about love, nature, sailors and cattle breeding that still reflect life in colonial and 19th century Mexico are common. For more than five generations, the Vega family has contributed much to Veracruz’s traditional Son Jarocho. This version of Los Vega began ten years ago as the emblematic family’s next generation project. Aiming to preserve and revitalize Veracruz’s musical traditions, their sound brings traditional sones (strains) from the wide jarocho music repertoire, with an original, contemporary sound.
