Julie Doiron

from Sackville, NB

Julie Doiron has been Canada’s premiere Broken Girl singer-songwriter since before Phoebe Bridgers was even born and she’s still a vivacious and prolific indie auteur. But even before becoming one of the most consistent and reliable names in the Canadian underground she was playing guitar and bass in Moncton, New Brunswick noise pop favourites Eric’s Trip. Julie’s Lo-fi lullabies and nuanced earnestness have earned her an incomparable reputation and drawn in incredible collaborators over her career including late legend Gord Downie and the Tragically Hip, two devastating records ten years apart with lo-fi death savant Mount Eerie, and the lively basement-folk trio with Daniel Romano and Fred Squires. She even guests on Calgary favourite Astral Swans’ most recent LP. Doiron is an east coast household name for music lovers of all stripes having founded New Brunswick’s best kept secret, Sappyfest, and her music is undeniably lovable. Writing and performing in English, French, and Spanish, her output spans fragile folk to gregarious garage but with an undeniably generous ethos. Just try to leave a Julie Doiron show without becoming her parasocial best friend.
