About AHI · Brampton, ON

Brampton native Ahkinoah Habah Izarh, aka multiple Juno-nominated indie-soul artist AHI, (pronounced “eye”) spent his early 20s backpacking across his father’s home nation of Trinidad.  He emerged with an unbreakable songwriting rule: to be able to see himself—and some truth— in his songs. AHI’s “gravel on silk” voice unveils his innate storytelling knack, with tightly-crafted lyrics, driving rhythms and catchy melodies. It’s sublime modern-day folk-rock with a timelessness quality that falls between retro and revelatory. His most hopeful and optimistic songs bear themes of struggle and overcoming odds, with beauty in the darkness, as he deftly weaves threads together for an unfettered look into his life.
