About Shaela Miller · Lethbridge, AB

Shaela Miller’s music is a small town Alberta saloon – a stubby bottle of Pil, a big ol’ Buffalo head behind the bar and a juke box in the corner. Push E32 for Miller’s two steppin’ honky tonk, then E33 for a B-side heart-aching tearjerker. Miller’s music is steeped in classic country tradition, which in 2019 means she doesn’t shy away from the darker side, injecting punk and indie rock attitude into her no-BS music. Like most Alberta teenagers, Miller started out as a rocker. At 14, her first instrument was the bass which she played along to Pink Floyd; that is, until she dug a Patsy Cline CD out of an HMV bargain bin. Then she became obsessed and started writing country songs. By, 16 Miller was playing original material at open mics and she’s been at it ever since. Ten years later, she has a couple of LPs under her belt, several accolades and a soundtrack appearance on HBO’s True Blood. You can count Miller among the new generation of country singer songwriters, having sidestepped the Top 40 side of country in favour of her unique noir approach, with an achingly beautiful voice to match.
