Such a burden is talent, especially when it takes you in many different directions. If you are Celeigh Cardinal, that talent includes winning songwriting awards, blossoming as a CKUA programmer, and hosting a thoroughly modern podcast, Learning to Listen. What do you focus on? How do you fit it all in?
Luckily for us, Cardinal’s first love is making sweet, soulful folk music. She continues to develop her craft in a deliberate manner releasing 2011’s EP, 2017’s Everything and Nothing At All with a third on the way this year. Her singing voice is rich and deep with a burnished maturity and a dexterous technical virtuosity that wraps itself around notes with a snarl, a purr, or something in the middle. Growing up in Grande Prairie and performing since age four, Cardinal owns the stage and connects with an audience through humour, passion and power. Whether gently strumming her acoustic guitar or leading a band in a rocking rave-up, she commands our attention.
