Last year was a good one for Logan Staats. The young singer-songwriter started 2018 by becoming the first artist to release a single through The Launch, a reality TV series where emerging artists have the chance to work with top Canadian talent. Hand-picked by Shania Twain thanks to his haunting voice and captivating presence, Staats soon found himself with a No. 1 single in “The Lucky Ones.”
That launch may have been good fortune, but it certainly wasn’t luck. Born in Ohsweken, Ontario on the Six Nations reserve, and raised in Brantford, Staats has been writing and performing music since his early teens. Armed with a harmonica, an acoustic guitar and a compelling confidence on stage, he worked his way from his local bars to sold-out stages across the country. Along the way, he had the chance to share stages with his musical heroes, from Buffy Sainte-Marie to Mumford and Sons, and to develop the voice that earned him his CTV success.
A No. 1 hit is only the beginning for Staats, though. With his newfound national platform, the artist has found himself on “an open journey of art, expression, and culture,” with the goal of breaking down the barriers between indigenous and mainstream music. With his talent, determination, and a little bit of luck, Logan Staats is already well on his way.
