Folk Festival set to go Thursday

The weather is looking great for the 36th annual Calgary Folk Music Festival which runs Thursday to Sunday at Prince’s Island Park.
Ticket sales have been a little slower this year, which might have something to do with the economic downtown.
Artistic Director Kerri Clarke spoke to the Morning News on News Talk 770 about the four day event.

“We have tickets left for every day. There are very few left for Saturday so that’s the day people should definitely buy in advance.”

The Folk Music Festival features over 70 performers from around the world. Some of the most recognizable names include The Mavericks, Lucinda Williams, Father John Misty, John Butler Trio and Buffy Sainte-Marie. Clarke says there’s a little something for everyone.

“There’s a lot of different styles of music represented. It’s not just folk. Folk is really more about how people are with each other, and the fact that there’s a diversity of music, and it’s a safe place to be for families and lots of different generations and cultures.”

“We have six stages, a talk tent, a family area, beer garden, craft and food vendors so it’s a pretty awesome time for the four days.”
